Fortunately most of us have never faced the kind of suffering that Job faced; unfortunately, though, we all still experience suffering. Rather than try to explain Job’s suffering, Elihu pointed to God’s transcendence as a source of hope.

Ezra was a hero in that he led a couple of revivals encouraging people to turn back to God. But that was just a result (that he really couldn’t control). What might be more praiseworthy was the spiritual passion he demonstrated.

One of the prevailing themes of the Bible is God leads and guides His people. The emphasis is not so much on how He does so, yet numerous passages assure us He does so. Look closely--where is God leading you right now?

One interesting thing about heroes is how they come in all shapes and sizes. Sure there are some characteristics that seem to be constantly the same, but God also loves to use people in their uniqueness.

The prayer of a righteous person can accomplish much, as James writes. But for us to live the artful life, we must pray with that expectation, instead of offering prayers of convenience.

It's easy to become consumed with having our needs (and wants) taken care of, but we are also responsible for the needs of others. Living the artful life is learning how to use our resources for the greater good.
